ST. MARY’S

BOYS LACROSSE

The 2024 Lacrosse season will be the 75th season for our St. Mary’s Lacrosse program. In 1950, Coach Ed Coughlin and his team began the lacrosse program at St. Mary’s in downtown Annapolis, just off Duke of Gloucester Street, and since that time our program has played over 1,000 lacrosse games while earning an overall record of 699-348-3. The goal of the St. Mary’s lacrosse program is to develop every student athlete while competing in the best High School Lacrosse League in the United States. When you decide to play lacrosse at St. Mary’s, you are deciding to push yourself to be the best player you can be on the field, the best student you can be in the classroom, and the best person you can be off the field. When you graduate our goal is that you will be able to look back and see that you make the right decision to join the St. Mary’s Lacrosse family. Family is a huge word for our program. Whether you are on the Varsity, Junior Varsity, or Fresh/Soph team, we treat our entire program as a family. All three teams are working towards the goal of winning MIAA A Conference Championships. Just as important as the family you have while playing at St. Mary’s is the alumni family you will join upon graduation. Our motto, Remember Where You Came From, carries on long after you leave. There may be Saints in California, Montana, NYC, and beyond; but one thing we ALL have in common is the eternal family we joined when we decided to play lacrosse and earn a great education at our little school off Duke of Gloucester Street.

This upcoming season we will field three teams in the MIAA A Conference: Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Fresh/Soph. Our program takes great pride in the coaching staff we have assembled over the last 9 seasons to lead our young men. Our coaching staff includes a wealth of experience in both playing and coaching lacrosse at the highest levels, as well as many St. Mary’s Alumni. The 2024 Varsity Staff is coached by Head Coach Victory Lilly (‘87) who is in his 9th season at the helm, Will Dalton (‘04), Jamie Lilly (‘13), Brian Burlace (‘88), Matt Clune (‘94), JP Dalton (‘08), Dom Lamolinara (‘10), Taylor Rosseau (‘08), Nick Lilly (‘20), John Kerr, and Gene Ubriaco. The 2024 JV staff is coached by Head Coach Brett Callaghan (‘99), Jack Canter, Kevin Fox (‘15), and JP Coombs (‘09). The 2024 Fresh/Soph Team is led by Head Coach Dom Lamolinara (‘10), Bill Brimhall (‘90), Brendan Cerniglia (‘10)and Logan Lamon (‘19). Our St. Mary’s Lacrosse Program is very excited for the 2024 season to be underway. My staff and I are appreciative of all the support we receive and appreciate your support of our young men. We look forward to seeing many of you under the bright lights on Bestgate Road this Spring! As always, “Remember Where You Came From.” Coach Lilly

Dr. Andrew Moore | St. Mary’s Schools President Dr. Andrew Moore began his role as the President of St. Mary’s Schools on January 31, 2022. Prior to joining St. Mary’s, Dr. Moore was an Associate Professor in the School of Education at Notre Dame of Maryland University (NDMU) in Baltimore, Maryland where he taught and advised doctoral students while serving as the Coordinator of NDMU’s pioneering graduate programs in gifted and talented education. During his time at NDMU, Dr. Moore has worked closely with the School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND), the foundresses of St. Mary’s Schools.

Before taking the position at NDMU, Dr. Moore spent 21 years at Calvert Hall College High School in Towson, Maryland as a teacher of French Language, History, and Humanities, and as director of Calvert Hall’s renowned McMullen Scholars Program. In recent years, he returned to serve as a consultant, adviser, and instructor in that program. In addition to his academic credentials, Dr. Moore has a notable record in high school athletics as a baseball and soccer coach for twenty years at Calvert Hall. He was the Head Coach of the Varsity Soccer program for 14 seasons, coaching multiple nationally ranked teams and winning two A Conference titles. In 2002, he was named Maryland State Boys Soccer Coach of the Year and, as the All-South Region Coach of the Year, was one of eight finalists for National Coach of the Year. A native of Massachusetts who has lived in the Annapolis area for three decades, Dr. Moore earned a Bachelor of Arts with honors in History and French from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, a Master’s Degree in French History from York University in Toronto, Canada, and a Ph.D. in Atlantic History from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He is married to St. Mary’s alumna Jeanne (Ruane) Moore ’88, and they have three children, two of whom graduated from St. Mary’s High School, Emma Moore ’16 and Grace Moore ’18.

Fr. Patrick Woods, C.Ss.R. | St. Mary’s Pastor Father Patrick Woods is a native of Brooklyn, New York, raised in the parish of the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. After making his first vows as a Redemptorist in 1968, Father Woods attended St. Alphonsus College in Suffield, Connecticut, majoring in philosophy, and received his final four years of seminary training at Mount Saint Alphonsus Seminary in Esopus, New York where he received a Master of Divinity and a Master of Religious Education. Father Woods was ordained as a priest in June 1975 and then, after earning a master’s degree in English at Fordham University, taught for ten years at the same high school seminary he had attended near Erie, Pennsylvania. During his time teaching, Father Woods also earned a Master of Science in Guidance and Counseling from Gannon University. Father Woods previously served as the Director of Formation at Holy Redeemer College in Washington, D.C. and was elected Provincial Vicar of the Baltimore Province, a position he held for twelve years, before serving as Provincial Superior for six years. Father Woods served as pastor at St. Martin of Tours in Bethpage, Long Island for eight years before coming to St. Mary’s. Father Woods is an avid St. Mary’s sports fan and rejoices in saying “Once a Saint, Always a Saint!” Joe Keenan | Interim Principal As a former football and lacrosse player at St. Mary’s High School, and proud alumnus of the class of 1994, I can attest to the formative power of our athletic program. Our coaches then, as now, helped good players become great and great players become the best. Our teams have always been competitive at the highest levels, even when our opponents had twice the number of students. We intend to keep that winning tradition at St. Mary’s High School today and into the future. Go Saints!

Tom Smith | Athletic Director Welcome to St. Mary’s lacrosse! The athletic landscape of St. Mary’s continues to commence at the intersection of sport, our parish and our student-athletes. I can’t tell you how excited and honored I am to keep driving forward to ensure St. Mary’s maintains its position as a preeminent athletic department. At St. Mary’s, our commitment is providing our student-athletes an unrivaled experience. Development spiritually, academically, athletically and personally, is the foundation of the Saint’s experience. We believe this experience affords a great education and competition at the highest level that ensures success of our student athletes. Excellence in sport equates to values and leadership skills that will last the rest of their lives. Our lacrosse programs are led by St. Mary’s alumni and former Division 1 lacrosse players. Coach Victor Lilly played at Towson University and is in his ninth season at the helm of our boys program. Last year’s squad saw 19 seniors continue their athletic careers at the college level, 18 for lacrosse and 1 for football. Our lacrosse programs compete in the highly competitive MIAA and IAAM A Conference, arguably the best lacrosse conferences in the country. We are looking forward to hosting you and your family, while supporting our teams this season.
