Tom DeMaio – Head Varsity Coach As I enter my first season as the St. Mary’s Varsity Head Coach, I am very excited to be a part of the St Mary’s community. I look forward to instituting a winning culture at this great academic institution, which has a legacy for success in the IAAM conference. I bring extensive girls and boys lacrosse coaching experience at the collegiate, high school, and club level to our athletes. I started my coaching career on the men’s side in New England with Northeastern University (MCLA) and have since coached both boys and girls Varsity lacrosse for over 20 years. As we look ahead to this season, there is a great deal of enthusiasm among the coaching staff and the players. These student athletes have been working extremely hard and have embraced the vision of the St. Mary’s program. We are excited to put a product on the field that can compete with the iron of the best conference in the nation. The foundation of our program is developing our players on and off the field. We want our athletes to get better every day and to recognize their potential. We believe that the best part of our athletes’ day should be when they show up to lacrosse practice. Our staff will do everything in our power to contribute to that goal, and to ensure that the St. Mary’s high school lacrosse experience is the absolute best it can be. We are excited to build on the great Saints tradition of lacrosse this Spring! I am thrilled to introduce a new Varsity staff for the 2023-24 season: Christina Lilly – Defensive Assistant Coach Christina graduated from Fallston High School where she excelled in Field Hockey and Lacrosse. She went on to Gettysburg College where Christina served as captain for both during her senior year. During her time at Gettysburg, she won three Conference
Dr. Andrew Moore | St. Mary’s Schools President Dr. Andrew Moore began his role as the President of St. Mary’s Schools on January 31, 2022. In recent years, he returned to serve as a consultant, adviser, and instructor in that program. In addition to his academic credentials, Dr. Moore has a notable record in high school athletics as a baseball and soccer coach for twenty years at Calvert Hall. Fr. Patrick Woods, C.Ss.R. | St. Mary’s Pastor Father Patrick Woods is a native of Brooklyn, New York, raised in the parish of the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. After making his first vows as a Redemptorist in 1968, Father Woods attended St. Alphonsus College in Suffield, Connecticut, majoring in philosophy, and received his final four years of seminary training at Mount Saint Alphonsus Seminary in Esopus, New York where he received a Master of Divinity and a Master of Religious Education. Father Woods was ordained as a priest in June 1975 and then, after earning a master’s degree in English at Fordham University, taught for ten years at the same high school seminary he had attended near Erie, Pennsylvania. During his time teaching, Father Woods also earned a Master of Science in Guidance and Counseling from Gannon University. Father Woods previously served as the Director of Formation at Holy Redeemer College in Washington, D.C. and was elected Provincial Vicar of the Baltimore Province, a position he held for twelve years, before serving as Provincial Superior for six years. Father Woods served as pastor at St. Martin of Tours in Bethpage, Long Island for eight years before coming to St. Mary’s. Father Woods is an avid St. Mary’s sports fan and rejoices in saying “Once a Saint, Always a Saint!” Joe Keenan | Interim Principal As a former football and lacrosse player at St. Mary’s High School, and proud alumnus of the class of 1994, I can attest to the formative power of our athletic program. Our coaches then, as now, helped good players become great and great players become the best. Our teams have always been competitive at the highest levels, even when our opponents had twice the number of students. We intend to keep that winning tradition at St. Mary’s High School today and into the future. Go Saints!
Tom Smith | Athletic Director Welcome to St. Mary’s lacrosse! The athletic landscape of St. Mary’s continues to commence at the intersection of sport, our parish and our student-athletes. I can’t tell you how excited and honored I am to keep driving forward to ensure St. Mary’s maintains its position as a preeminent athletic department. At St. Mary’s, our commitment is providing our student-athletes an unrivaled experience. Development spiritually, academically, athletically and personally, is the foundation of the Saint’s experience. We believe this experience affords a great education and competition at the highest level that ensures success of our student athletes. Excellence in sport equates to values and leadership skills that will last the rest of their lives. Our lacrosse programs are led by St. Mary’s alumni and former Division 1 lacrosse players. Coach Tom Demaio played at Springfield College and is in his first season at the helm of our girls program. The class of 2023 saw 7 seniors continue their lacrosse careers at the college level. Our lacrosse programs compete in the highly competitive MIAA and IAAM A Conference, arguably the best lacrosse conferences in the country. We looking forward to hosting you and your family at our games this season.
