Vital Sign Home Care - Employee Handbook 2023

4-2 Employee Dress And Personal Appearance

Employees’ a ppearance at work should be neat, clean and professional which includes the following: 1. Personal hygiene - good oral and body hygiene should be maintained at all times. Heavily scented colognes, perfumes, lotions etc. should be avoided. Gum chewing is prohibited as it interferes with clear, concise communication. 2. Attire for all employees must be neat, clean, professional and in good condition free of rips, tears, unsewn seams and spots. Attire must be suitable for individual height and weight, fit loosely enough to allow bending, stretching and stooping. Low cut or revealing necklines and spaghetti strap shirts, sweatpants, flip flops, shorts and skirts shorter than 4 inches above the knee are prohibited. Undergarments must be worn at all times and must not be visible. 3. Hair should be neatly combed and clean. For direct care staff, hair length should be kept above the shoulder, otherwise pulled back. 4. Nails should be a length that does not interfere with client safety. 5. Identification – An Agency name badge must be easily viewed at chest level on outer clothing for all direct care staff. 6. Direct Care Employees – in addition to attire above: o Tops: Scrub top or Agency T-shirt. Non print long sleeved shirts may be worn under top o Bottoms: Scrub bottoms or non-denim khaki, black, brown or blue pants. Bottoms must be full or capris length only (no shorts). o Shoes and socks must be worn at all times and must be athletic shoes (i.e., tennis or running/walking shoes) or other appropriate nursing-type shoes with a closed heel and toe and non-skid sole. 7. Jewelry: Rings may harbor infection; therefore, the direct caregiver is reminded to take precautions to prevent the spread of infections that are caused by wearing rings in direct patient care. The Agency will reasonably accom modate an employee’s religious beliefs in terms of workplace attire unless the accommodation creates an undue hardship. Accommodation of religious beliefs in terms of attire may be difficult in light of safety issues. Those requesting a workplace attire accommodation based on religious beliefs should talk to the HR Manager. Employees should contact their supervisor for specific information regarding acceptable attire for their position. If employees report to work dressed or groomed inappropriately, they may be prevented from working until they return to work well-groomed and wearing the proper attire.

4-3 Receiving Gifts

Employees must report to their supervisor all gifts received from clients or vendors or any other person. No exception to this rule is tolerated, regardless of the gift, including but not limited to cash, checks, debit cards, tickets to an event, presents for a birthday or holiday, or even household items.

The Agency wants to avoid the possibility that a client or their family could ever accuse one of our employees of theft or of taking advantage of a client.
