we believe in our students and know that St. Mary’s can help them strive to accomplish far more than they thought possible. This is what we describe when we call ourselves the Saints, and I am inspired by the ways our entire community embraces this identity. For all these reasons I am proud to cheer: Go Saints!

Principal’sWelcome

Welcome to St. Mary’s High School, the Home of the Saints! St. Mary’s is a unique, Catholic, college-preparatory parish high school with a rich history and a bright future, located in the heart of downtown Annapolis on the banks of Spa Creek. Built on a solid foundation that began with the Redemptorists and was guided by the charism of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, we aspire to nurture our students to be servant leaders in the twenty-first century. During the special moments of high school, our young men and women take risks and try new experiences to learn more about the gifts and talents God provided each one of them. It is St. Mary’s mission to serve our students along this journey of academic, social, physical, and spiritual formation. Through our dedication to developing the entire child; mind, body, and spirit, we ensure our students live the best academic experience possible, while also having opportunities to participate in athletics, Clubs, and other extracurricular activities. Demonstrating our commitment to faith, we have an active Campus Ministry that guides our community to recognize Christ in others and to include God in our lives, no matter our walk of faith. The experienced, committed, and talented faculty and staff of St. Mary’s High School take pride in embracing every student as an individual and guiding each student to reach the fullness of his or her potential as individuals in God’s image. The athletic department, under the leadership of Allison Fondale, provides our students with various opportunities to learn, play, and grow through interscholastic competition. The Saints rise to the challenge to lead by example on and off the field, showing their dedication, courage, and integrity in all that they do. Thank you for supporting our students throughout this season and the remainder of this school year. Go Saints! Welcome to St. Mary’s athletics and our boys and girls lacrosse programs! At St. Mary’s our student-athletes, coaches and staff strive for excellence in everything they do. Success at St. Mary’s requires the highest level of commitment and work ethic not only on the field but in the classroom and in the community. Our goals are to develop strong athletes, students, and leaders. We were blessed in the fall of 2017 with the opening of the St. Mary’s Team and Ministry House located adjacent to Pascal Field, our practice and game field. Located there are a state of the art training room and weight room, boys and girls locker rooms, a coaches and officials locker area as well as team meeting space and a balcony overlooking the field. This facility demonstrates St. Mary’s true commitment to excellence. It certainly is an exciting time to be a Saint! Our lacrosse programs are led by St. Mary’s alumni and former Division One lacrosse players, Mindy Jones and Victor Lilly. Coach Jones played at the University of Maryland and is now in her fourth year leading our girls program. Coach Lilly played at Towson University and is in his fifth year at the helm of our boys program. Both programs compete in the highly competitive IAAM and MIAA A Conference, arguably the best lacrosse conferences in the country. We look forward to seeing you and supporting our teams this season! Girls Lacrosse Coaches

As I entermy fourth season as St. Mary’sVarsityHeadCoach, I amexcited to continuebuilding aprogram that has a legacy for success in the IAAM conference. This year’s team has the same goal as when I was a St. Mary’s student-athlete and our teamwon the 2005 IAAMChampionship – having a very successful season and competing in the Championshipgame inMay. InNovember the Saints signed a recordhigh 11 seniors to play at Divisions I and III. Two seniors will play two sports while pursing further education. We are extremely proud of the dedication, commitment and success of the class of 2020. They are far fromfinishedwith their careers at St. Mary’s, andwe look forward to a strong season. All through my playing career, I have been fortunate to be part of championship cultured programs – continuing my lacrosse career as a defender for the University of Maryland’s 2009 ACC championship team– and I expect to continue that success at St.Mary’s. I look forward to coaching the2020 teamwhile workingwith one of the best coaching staffs in the area. CoachGary Jones returns for his second season with the Saints. Coach Jones has an extensive 20-plus-year background in coaching youth lacrosse in the area. He will assist in practice and game day operations. Coach Katie Schmitt returns to St. Mary’s Varsity for her second season. Coach Katie is a 2008 attacker from the University of Maryland and a 2015 inductee into the Horseheads Hall of Fame. Last season Coach Katie coached an entire season pregnant with twins. In July, Coach Katie welcomed two new healthy babies to the Saints family, Anderson and Emilia. This season Varsity will add assistant Coach Taylor Bresnahan. Coach Taylor is a 2013 graduate of South River High School. She was on the Tewaaratron AwardWatch List her senior year at University of Florida where she finished her career as an All American, ranking second all-time with 86 career turnovers, seventh with 97 draw controls, and ninth with 97 groundballs. St. Mary’s JV team is being led by Coach Linda Brogan who is entering her 14th season for the Saints. Coach Brogan has been actively involved in youth lacrosse in the Annapolis area for over 14 years. Prior tohercoachingcareeratSt.Mary’s,CoachBroganwasafour-yearfieldhockeyand lacrosseplayerforthe University of Delaware. While at Delaware, Coach Brogan won three lacrosse national championships. Coach Bridget Zimmerman enters her fourth season as JV’s assistant coach. Coach Zimmerman had a successful career at St. Mary’s and continued that success at the University of Oregon, where she was rookie of the year. In November Coach Zimmerman and Husband Jake added Elsie, the newest Saint, to their family. Congratulations Coach Zimmerman! Additionally, Coach Cara Lewnes will join our JV coaching staff this year. Coach Lewnes previously coached lacrosse at Southern High School forsix years and has been a CrossFit adult, teen, and kid trainer for six years. She is also a USA powerlifting coach! The 2020 Fresh/ Soph team will be led by Coach Chris Banko, entering his fifth season at St. Mary’s. He has coached girls’lacrosse at many levels for over ten years. We have committed to a winter program with our Peak trainers and with the indoor league on the Eastern Shore, and continue to develop as a program in our own amazing facilities.
