22 Marielle Mcateer - Midfield A midfielder for the Saints, Marielle has been a key part of the Girls’ varsity team since her freshman year and is one of our four captains this season. Her standout performance as a player has earned her several honors and awards including selection to the Under Armour All America Underclass team in 2017 for the DC region and in 2019 for the championship-winning Baltimore team. Additionally Marielle was recognized as the 2016 “A”Division MVP for Anne Arundel County Girls’ Lacrosse. During the summers, Marielle played for the Maryland United Lacrosse club. In addition to her distinguished lacrosse career, Marielle has been a part of the Saints volleyball program for all four years, serving as a captain her senior year,
earning an IAAM championship, and being recognized as the team’s Unsung Hero in 2018 and receiving the Coaches’ Award in 2019. Additionally, Marielle was the JV basketball team MVP her freshman year. As a committed student athlete, Marielle is an Honor Roll student, maintaining a 4.2 GPA, and has been recognized as a Parvis Scholar, Neumann Scholar, and as part of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. Her volunteer and leadership activities include serving as a Fish 4 a Cure Junior Board Member, Leaders in Action, and Student Athletes in Leadership (SAIL). She was selected to represent St. Mary’s at the 2017 IAAM Leadership Conference. Marielle will play lacrosse for Johns Hopkins University next year.
Marielle has been a four year starter for the Saints and has been one of the most dominate midfielders over these four years. She is speedy, fierce, and a groundball machine. 23 Sydney Barnett - Attack An attacker for the Saints, Sydney has been a member of the varsity team since her sophomore year. During the summers, Sydney played for the Maryland United 2020 East team, and was also a part of the Anne Arundel CrosseOver program. In addition to her success on the lacrosse field, Sydney has been a part of the Saints field hockey and cross country programs. As a dedicated student athlete, Sydney’s accomplishments extend into the classroom as well. She is an Honor Roll student, maintaining a 4.0 GPA, and has been recognized as a Parvis Scholar and Neumann Scholar. She has been an active member of COSA, Leadership in Action, Reach Out and volunteers for the Light House Shelter. Sydney is also a talented
musician, playing saxophone, piano and the ukulele! Sydney will play lacrosse for Mount St. Mary’s next year, and has received an Athletic and Trustee Academic Scholarship as a result of her achievements. Sydney is a strong attacker that we will look to be an offensive threat with her strong ability to dodge and feed from behind the cage. Sydney will place lacrosse at Mount St. Mary’s next year.
